Perspective

Yeah! Welcome to the world of blogging! I am new to this site, but looking forward to letting the world see what's going on in my little section of the planet. Right now I am in Abilene, Texas, spending time with my grandparents, Amos and Dewby Ray. They are so sweet and are taking very good care of me and spoiling me properly. It makes me wonder why I don't visit my grandparents more often...I usually say it's because I am a "busy person", but really, how boring is that? Everyone is busy.

Being here reminds me to take it slow and enjoy the friends and family I have around me. My grandpa is 80 and my gran is 79. In the past two days, they've learned that 3 of their friends have passed away. "That's just how it is when you get to be our age," my gran tells me, "It's just a matter of time." Always the beacon of positivity, I know, but in all sincerity, it makes me wonder how many more visits I'll be able to make before they are gone too.

Perhaps this is too deep for a first posting, so to bring it back to enjoying the good things in life, I'll encourage everyone who is due for a visit to Abilene to make a stop for lunch at Harold's Pit Bar-B-Q. It is my favorite place to go while I'm here - the salt-water cornbread is the best and the sauce is world famous - or at least the pictures on the wall tell you so.

So, perspective is important when it comes to spending your time. As I've been in Abilene, the pace has been much slower - life with my grandparents revolves around where to eat and making sure that your are home for the afternoon nap.

I drove into Fort Worth yesterday for my friend Christie's 30th birthday party and her response, in addition to surprise, was, "You look so refreshed and rested!" I suppose that is the benefit of only worrying about eatery locations and getting the regular nap in each day.

My resolve: May I endeavor to do less and enjoy more. To sit and listen rather than hustle and bustle to accomplish my to do list.
